According to traditional Eastern Medicine, each season corresponds to a particular element and organ system of the body. Spring is related to the wood element and the energy of the liver. The wood element is where manifestation begins, just like deep seeds planted in the Earth.
As the weather becomes warmer, our organs become activated as a whole. The liver, becomes more active during this season. It works at total capacity to detoxify all the unnecessary things such as waste products, fat, etc. that have accumulated in the body during the winter. However, excessive workload can easily exhaust the liver, leading to various functional problems. When the liver is functioning properly, emotional Qi /energy flows smoothly throughout the body. However, imbalances within the body can send signals in the form of various discomforts such as neck and shoulder tension, chest tightness, digestive symptoms, PMS, migraines, poor sleep, irritability, and impatience, etc. These discomforts are signs of stress, particularly in the liver.
Traditional Eastern Medicine emphasizes a proactive approach to health by acting at an early stage to prevent serious illness. By paying attention to the signals from your mind and body, consciously choosing what you eat (we recommend bitter & sweet ingredients), and finding a balance that works for your body, you can enjoy a comfortable and healthy springtime.
“Spring won’t let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again.”
